This is one of the most famous trekking spots in the Western Ghats through an abondened railway track which connects Bangalore and Mangalore. The track has been repaired now and a train runs twice a day.So be careful if you are planning to trek.
The trek starts from Donigal,a small railway station just after Sakleshpur. We took a bus from Bangalore and reached Donigal by 3 in the morning. We rested there till sunrise and started to trek by 7.For more than an hour,we trekked along the railway track and it turned out to be just a simple track to follow. But just minutes later,we saw the first bridge at a distance and the sorroundings were more greener now. This trek is famous for the bridges and tunnels and the lush green environment around you. With the sun just starting to intensify,we stepped on the first bridge...
The view from top of the bridge was amazing,a small stream flowing down and the thick forests all around,it was just what we wished. These bridges can turn out to be dangerous since they are very old and nothing to get a support on either sides, obviously we were quite relieved to have crossed the bridge....

We had a small breakfast, couple of chapathis with sauce and jam.We were ready to trek further with full tummies.Just after 10 mimutes,we saw the first tunnel painted with its length on top which read 600m.Just as we entered the tunnel,it went completely dark and it was like we were in a lion's den.The whole place was filled with bats sticking on the walls and we managed to get out of the tunnel without being bit by any of the bats...
We trekked for another 3 hrs and stopped for lunch. We put on a small fire and cooked the food ourselves. It was the most delicious food we ever had.By evening,we reached a small station called Edikimeri and luckily we got a small room to stay for the night. We somehow managed to spend the night with rats running all over the room.It was like sleeping in a rat territory.
After a good night's sleep inspite of the rats,we got down from Edikimeri in the morning through the forest and reched the Mangalore highway. We reached Kukke Subramanya in a truck and took a bus to Bangalore from Kukke....

Sakleshpur is about 220 kms from Bangalore and plenty of buses on the way to Mangalore,Kukke,Dharmasthala stop in Sakleshpur.Donigal is about 7 kms from here. The end point of the trek is Kukke which is quite a divine place and the great peak of Kumaraparvatha lies behind this temple. This is one of the most challenging trekking spots in karnataka...
